dvd label suggestions

I used an Epson R200 for 3 years. Good printer. Yes, I had to do the Epson push thing, but it was fabulous. Now I'm using that as backup and have upgraded to the R380. The R380 seems fine other than the fact that it guzzles ink bigtime and the claria ink is expensive. I switched over to generic ink (supermediastore.com) which didnt work right at first. The printer didn't like the switch one little bit and wouldn't print until I did about 5 cycles of cleaning. As you might imagine I was ready to smash it, but then it began printing and photos look fine and DVDs great.

Discus software what I design with.

I use verbatim or TDK. I just now figured out how to use the Epson Print CD software with multiple printers by going through the manual print menu.

Good info everyone, but now I am torn on what to do........I will probably go with the Epson R380, even though everyone says it sucks ink like crazy. Then maybe later if clients continue to want large amounts of DVDs go for the Primera Bravo II for burning and printing the DVDs.

Sound like a decent plan?

If all you're doing is printing DVD's the supermediastore.com ink is way cheaper (35$ set) than the stock Epson claria ink. (~$80 set) I can only suppose it's not as good as the real thing but it costs half as much. I've placed DVD's side by side, one printed with stock and the other third party inks and they're 100% identical in all aspects to my eye. As I said, I did have to run the unclog utility about 5 times to get it the printer to transition over to the generic ink which wasted a good $10 in ink, but that's nothing over the long haul. As I was doing it though I was ready to take a baseball bat to the printer because (assuming it wasn't going to work with the cheaper ink) I was in no way about to pay stock ink prices at the rate it was sucking ink. Now that I can use the cheap stuff I'm very happy with it.

Note the older R200 printed great, but was a pain the butt. It was still running fine though after 3 years of spitting out DVD's- albiet sometimes with me fighting with it.

Yeah Disc Makers is pricey for most options...Their specials are cool but for anything under 1k order we can do it much cheaper. Our price for your choice DVD brand, full color inkjet, dupe is $.90 ea any quantity. Disc Makers wants $2.29 ea for 100, $1.39 ea for 1k. Their digi packs are unbeatable in price though. We have to charge like 4x5 times their price (though we do offer a higher quality product ;))

I just bought a Canon Pixma iP6700D and my GOD do my DVDs look great. When I print from PhotoShop (the packaged software is beyond crap) the DVDs look like they were professionally made. And when you get the new waterproof discs that somehow soak up the ink they look even more pro. I'm never going back to labels.

I was going to get the Epson R320 but I realized that the iP6700D has better resolution and is much cheaper in the long run - the Epson drinks ink like a sailor out to get lucky.

Hey,

I actually started this thread a while back and have been using the Epson R320 with better than average results. I don't have any stats as far as ink/disc etc. b/c I use it for other stuff and am dreadfully bad at keeping track regardless. I've had a few minor glitches with some smudging and some ink on the roller creating a few spots, but overall if you're careful it works well enough.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a duplicator/printer... anyone used this before? what kind of results? I know some of you mentioned the Primera, but not sure if its this one or not.

thanks

That's what I use, and it's great. I have to say the print quality is about 95% of the Epsons... but the convenience is well worth it! Lately I've been using Watershield discs, which provide really great results. I've printed a few thousand discs with my Bravo SE now, without a single glitch! Love my Bravo!
