Can anyone tell me the best way to compress for dvd on the mac? on my tv, playback straight from the dvx looks great but the same footage on dvd looks awful. I have fcp5 and newest dvd studio pro. I have tried to export from fcp as dv and import into dvd studio. i set dvd st to highest quality and all that but still looks bad. i also tried using compressor to output from fcp also at highest quality and same story.
so here's the weird thing. if i take the dv file and burn directly from toast it looks a little better. and even weirder still......if i go analog from the dvx into my $100 of the shelf consumer dvd recorder, it looks great. only trouble is, i can't do menu's, etc. on the stand alone unit. i have been through all the prefs and so on in dvd studio pro and just can't figure it out....
sidenote: on my 24" crt, the dvd studio disc looks decent but it's on my 42" plasma that the bad compression shows it's ugly face.
