alright so i have been using dvd-r ever since i have had my burner which is about two years. a buddy of mine gave me 100 +r's and i was like cool i will use them and see if they work and see how compatitable they are. well not only are the +r more compatable but they burn time is like 1/6th the time.

am i just way back on the times or does everyone use the +r. i must have read a million threads trying to figure out what dvd format i wanted to use but i must have been wrong

DVD-R are more compatible than DVD+R especially with older players.
Personally I use only +R's but always with bitsetting.
Burner writes certain bits to disc's header and DVD player thinks that they are 'real' DVD-ROM discs. This trick called bitsetting works only with +R's but...your burner must support this feauture. Do Google search and you'll find out or, if you use Nero (I think from version 6.6.*.*.) for example, then Recorder/Choose Recorder/Options and there is a field named Book Type settings. Choose DVD-ROM from the list.
If not such list available then your burner doesn't support bitsetting (or book type change).
