DVD Duplication rates

I think this has been asked, like, a million times before but for those of you who have sold DVDs, what kind of price are we talking about for getting a few hundred DVDs duped?

Re: DVD Duplication rates

I was just going to post a topic like that, you beat me to it. I'm also wondering.

I'm looking for 50-100 dvd's.

I know custom fix or something does it but they are way too expensive.. is this really going to be this expensive .. damn :(

Re: DVD Duplication rates

well, I can't dupe the materials but I do have a commerical color DVD printer.

I can do 25 at a time. Anyone interested? keep it in mind, though I can't even entertain the idea for awhile and would have to figure out what to charge..that is printing only, again.

If you are patient, yes. You can of coarse only do one at a time.

If you are doing a hundred it's not too practical.

if your burner gets too hot, most likely some DVDs wont burn properly. Your DVD burner might one day croak and die. It's better to have a company do it or get a machine designed for it.

Disjecta- you should charge enough to make a profit. Prices on DVDs will vary depending on how much you spend on materials costs and your labor if you plan on making it yourself. I personally would charge $10,000 so I can get that PS-technik adapter. :)

Re: DVD Duplication rates

And if you want QUALITY printing you'll have to send them out anyways. It's just easier to have a replication house do it.

From my research, it's about $10 a disc. (That's highly subjective though.)

Re: DVD Duplication rates

Those are great prices Dakota. Do you have any experience with either of them? The thing I like about CD Technical is that I've seen their work (IE Barry's book) and I can vouch that they do great work.

Re: DVD Duplication rates

No. Just a couple ads I seen in Videography mag a couple months ago. Should be easy enough to check out come purchase time.

Re: DVD Duplication rates

There's a world of difference between "duplication" and "replication".

Duplication involves low quantities, one-at-a-time type of stuff, using DVD-R or DVD+R, and in all likelihood you're going to get returns. The discs and players just aren't all that compatible. A couple of years ago I wouldn't even offer DVD to my customers because I'd get about 30% complaints that the DVD's wouldn't play.

Now, Replicating is where they make an actual glass master and stamp 'em out, just like Hollywood DVD's. Those are pretty much guaranteed to work in any DVD player. But replicating costs money and doesn't become cost-competitive until you get up around 1,000 units.

I ordered 1,000 of the DVX DVD, they did custom printing on the disk face, did the amaray case, a wrap in the amaray case, inserted and shrink-wrapped the whole thing, for about $1.50 each. That's hard to beat in 1,000 quantity. Other places were charging $1.89 or so. And CD Technical did a great job, too.

So, make sure you're comparing replication against duplication, and getting what you want. Duplication is not going to be as compatible as replication. But replication isn't really cost-effective unless you're making 1,000 discs. You can get 1,000 replicated for not much more than it would cost to get 250 duplicated.
