DVD Burning for sales...

I have two things I need to get onto DVD for selling, about 50 copies of each.

I don't really know how to go about to do this... Send it out to get them made? I want to keep costs low, and I doubt any bulk order place would do that few a number.

I don't have an issue with burning them at home with nero, except I'm afraid of putting out a bad product.

What would be the best way to raise the chances that the DVD's will play on the most DVD players they are put in?

What about compression settings... lowest burn speed, right?

After a little bit of research, I figured out atleast that I'll be using Taiyo Yuden DVD's.

I'm still a little lost on the compression. Somone told me to keep it around 8MP/s (9716kb/s).

This causes a problem with one of the DVD's because I would like to fit around the whole 120 minutes onto the DVD. Will the quality loss be humongous if I burn at 5073kb/s 720x480?

First off, 8Mbit/sec is generally too high. Most recent commercial players won't flip out, but older ones will certainly have issues. You always want to compose with the lowest common denomintator in mind. I've had best results by keeping the average bit rate around 5 on most things using 2 pass VBR. If you have intense motion in just certain parts you can always use compression markers in those areas.

As for duplication... 100 is a good amount. You'd be best served by farming it out to a duplicating facility. You burn your master and send it to them, they do all the work. It's not expensive in the relative scheme. I've used proactionmedia.com in the past because they have awesome customer service. Whenever I've called I got someone on the line that knew exactly what they were talking about and spit back the exact numbers I was requesting within seconds in a friendly professional way. No stammering, no "umm let's see," just wham bam click click ..that would cost you x. Check em out. There's cheaper out there, but they probably won't be as on top of things.

New problem occuring. I'm trying to burn a test dvd.

Settings were 5073kb/s, 720x480, 2 pass VBR, 4x burn speed, dvd-r.

When it finished and I popped it into my DVD player, the sound was completely off track of the video.

The original file being burnt was exported as a microsoft dv avi from premiere.

When I burn the final cd, I might need to lightly compress the original file to fit it on the dvd. Any suggestions for this? I have premiere and QT Pro.

thanks a bunch again.

You may want to try lowering your burn speed to 1 X. I ahve always done this on all of my Master copies on suggestion from a professor in college.

I second the motion to try Proaction media. These guys are awesome. I am about to send them the largest run I have ever done (8 disc DVD set of a local church's revival) They werent too bad on their price either, and I am sure I could have had it done cheaper, but I have been using these guys for over a year and had absolutely no screw ups whatsoever. They really know their stuff.
