I am planning to start shooting weddings and would like to know if I should purchase a blu ray burner or a regular dvd burner to put the footage on?

Do not use DVD+-R as a long term storage solution. The discs have a 10 year life span at best. I've seen some cheap media be un-readable within less than 2 years.

Buy Hard drives from a place like newegg, and put them into removable cases. Its your cheapest and best solution as of right now.

distribution or storage?

i'd say that most clients don't have blu-ray players yet, so you'll need sd capability for at least the rest of this year... pioneer makes a great dvd burner.

once you look at the cost of blu-ray burners and discs, you'll see why it hasn't gained as much traction as was hoped.
