DVD Blank Media

What kind of blank DVD media do you guys use? What brands are good and which ones would you stay away from? Also, what is the most compatible, DVD-R or DVD+R?

I use TDK DVD-R and have been happy with them. DVD-R is supposed to be a little more compatible since some of the older DVD players can't handle DVD+R. I would imagine that that is changing quickly, though, as the older players are disappearing.

I've tried a sh!tload of different brands of DVD's for different applications, and can say with confidence that fujifilm have been the best to me. Problem is that it's a certain pack of the Fujifilm, and it's getting harder to find them. I've come to the point of buying 100 packs off of ebay, cause the local electronic stores have all switched to the newer version of the fujifilm dvd/s, and they're not as hardcore.

The good one's look like this.

Then Verbatim.

Just my .02

EDIT: Fuji over TDK any day. Sorry Blaine:happy:

Cool. I had been using Sony, but since they've added AccuCore to their DVD's my player won't read them. It just says that the DVD is read only.

Here at work we buy US Digital Media DVD-R's in bulk... really cheap I think (pricewise) and they work really well!

I use Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R printable media. I've burned hundreds and maybe only had one or two coasters.

Had a 50 pack of Verbatims that were almost all coasters.

I use Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R as well. I burn them at 4x in a 1 to 9 dup tower. I have done thousands of them with maybe 2 or 3 rejects.

No problem there. People should use what works best for them. So far I've gone through three 100 packs and have yet to have a coaster. I guess that jinxes me, now they'll probably ALL be coasters...

I end up getting the print-on discs at Costco. They've got a coupon coming up, buy one pack (100) get one free. They price out at about 22 cents apiece that way...

Taiyo Yudens and Verbatim have both been okay for me. Neither allow me to change my burn speeds on my G5's superdrive, so they could both be crap -but neither brand has given me coasters either. -Both are dirt cheap.

I am also a user of Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R on the G5...I burn at 2x, however. They are my most stable media yet.

Some people have told me that it doesn't matter, but as far as I know, and have experienced, DVD-R is for Mac, and +R is for PC. At least my G5 won't burn on DVD+R media.

At far as what brand, I use printable as well, and I like Prodisc. If you get them here, it's a pretty good deal. Plus, I love the printable all the way to the hub, they look hot, and very professional.

I have burned maybe 100 or so, and have not had a single problem myself.

Don't get any disk from an Office Max or some place like that... I've wasted enough money there.

Go to the link above, free shipping, and you can get your dvd cases there as well.
