Hey everyone!

I just put up my new reel. Check it out at www.redrobotmedia.com!

I am always looking for new dvd authoring projects, so if you need an awesome menu for your film and you don't have a big budget, drop me a line.

Even if you don't need my services, I'm dying to get some feedback on it!

Happy Holidays!!!

Some very nice stuff - good work! As far as your question in the other forum as to when to work with a production for the DVD, I would say as early as possible. You really want to tie in the DVD with the title design and other elements of the production - also getting source footage and elements are easier to get during the production and postproduction phases of the film.

Hi Red,

You're off to a nice start with your demo as the first element of sales collateral. Over time, you'll add testimonials, package offering (you don't need to include prices), "about us", etc (standard HTML will be fine). Further, since you don't want to be a secret to potential customers that don't know you exist, you need to add appropriate keywords so Google and Yahoo will give you appropriate relevance hits when someone searches for phrases like DVD Authoring, etc. This could be on a page titled DVD Authoring Services and include elements such as encoding, authoring, menu design, and general consultation services. Perhaps in time you'll also want to provide full services where you handle the DVD production, labeling, pamphlets, cases, etc. (which you would outsource to the best-in-class companies) - this would save the hassle for client who will be happy to value your expertise to complete their project.

The one glaring omission that catches my eye is the need for details on how prospective clients at remote locations can work with you. You'll want lucid explanations of the basic processes including billing arrangements, media formats, tranmission of information from and to the client, etc. And don't forget to discuss DVD authoring details as navigational menu trees, chapter options, etc as well as compliance to ISO standards (ensuring compatability)

To get a handle on this all, be sure to check out your competition, considering how someone would find you searching the internet. I assume they would search for DVD Authoring Services- see where that takes you, see what others are doing, and clone the best in class. I note that top sponsored (paid) ads on google and yahoo are:

http://www.acutrack.com/
http://www.cdrom2go.com/
http://www.streamlab.com/

http://www.dvdtransfer.com/
http://www.tripledisk.com/
http://www.shop4tech.com/

Even more important, look carefully at the top few *NON-SPONSORED* websites right underneath the sponsored sites - you want to learn how they get such good placement by the search engines for free. I'll bet they have free useful content where many other websites link to their pages. The point here is, a wise webmaster gives something free to potential customers to get them to visit their website.

Okay Red, after all that let me ask here - how would we send you media info? Via mail, FTP upload, or something else? Or does it work in reverse where you don't receive content at all and send your finished authoring via mail, FTP download or something else? If so, please let us know the format and how we would include it to do our own burn.

Warm Regards, Michael

Wow

Wow

Thanks everyone!

That was more help than I expected.

Moonlitnight >> that goes double for you. Thanks for the insight. I haven't worked with anyone outside of NYC, but I'm dying to. I think I would prefer to use FEDEX or DHL. I would instruct my clients to use COD and I would include the costs of postage in my package price. I can accept footage of mini-DV tapes, 8mm tapes, Quicktime, and .avi file formats.

I feel like a lot of the finer points I won't be able to work out until I actually work with someone.

How about it? Any non-NYC people need a menu designed? I guess I'm going to have to learn by doing!

Word of advice on shipping.....I would not use fedex ground to send anything to anyone. I used to use them for shipping my final products to my clients when I was in college and working with people from back home. About 50-75 percent of the time the package would take 2 weeks to arrive, or it would never show up at all. Fedex express is fine, never had problems with them (Fedex has different shipping accounts and handlers for express, ground, international, freight and custom critical) I have never used DHL, but I have heard good things.

Thanks a bunch for the FEDEX tip.

And in response to an earlier post, yes, I use DVDSP.
