I am cutting a feature right now and have been trying to offload a DVD with a good audio mix. Dialogue levels range from -12 to 0dB with no peaking. Sounds nice and even through my Sennheisers and even on my preview color monitor. Once I burn a DVD of the scene the audio levels drop so much that I have to crank my TV up twice as far as normal just to hear it correctly.
I have tried these workflows:
FCP Mix => export to Quicktime movie => Compressor with dolby digital ac3 converter => DVDSP creation and burning
FCP Mix => Send to Compressor/same settings => DVDSP creation
FCP Mix => Send to compressor w/ custom -31dBFM => DVDSP
