Dvcpro Hd & P2

I am in the process of purchasing a camera that has both DV / DVCPRO / DVCPRO 50 / DVCPRO HD caperbilities. The camera is the Panasonic AG-HVX200. I edit on Premiere Pro 2 and would like to know if it handles these formats? and if i will need a raid hard drive to work with these formats?

Any advice / knowledge and experience with this would be greatly appreciated..

Kind Regards

No, not natively. You need a plug-in called Raylight, which enables drag-and-drop editing support for the files created by the HVX. Specifically, you're looking for MXF editing capability--MXF is the file format that is generated as the HVX records to P2 cards.

Alternatively, if you upgrade to Premiere Pro CS3, native MXF editing support is scheduled to be included in the next couple weeks. It's a free upgrade for owners of CS3.

Editing of any sort can always benefit from a RAID setup. However, even DVCPRO HD can be easily edited from a single hard drive, given that it is of the SATA variety and at least 7200RPM.

Using Cineform

Using Cineform

My editing suite is Premiere bundled with Cineform Prospect and it also can also import MXF files from the P2 using HDLink. 'Course Raylight might be cheaper.
