DVCAMvsMiniDV

Ok, so I'm shooting a final proj vid for my video class, Unfortuanately up here at James Madison University we're stuck with PD-150s and 170s for shooting. I was wondering if anyone knew of any significant advantage to shooting in DVCAM on MiniDV tapes. Being that they eat 20 minutes extra time, are they worth shooting if we want the best quality we can get?

Re: DVCAMvsMiniDV

Quality is the exact same. The difference is that DVCAM has locked audio, which is better for less dropouts during filming. As well DVCAM has a wider film stock, and should have a longer shelf life. It can also be recorded over a few times, and will still keep the quality. As well, it depends on where you are editing, and if DVCAM is more acceptable there.

Re: DVCAMvsMiniDV

The primary difference is that DVCAM should be more dropout-proof. As ColdPyroWF said, there's no image quality difference on the format.

Re: DVCAMvsMiniDV

Tape's tape. The camera determines what format it will record on. If you put a DVCAM tape in a DV camera, it'll record DV on that tape. If you put a DV tape in a DVCAM camera, it'll record DVCAM on it.
