DVCam Pass-through to CRT Monitor Questions

1. Is there any disadvantage to using the DVX100b as a pass-through to my JVC monitor (for color correction)...other than camera/wires lying about?
2. Does the IRE setting need to be changed to 7.5 when using camera as pass-through as above?
3. What are some inexpensive (under 500) alternatives to #1 above?

Thanks for any help here...I am an amateur videographer...who is starting to work on a documentary....and am trying to cover all bases.

Thanks for feedback. Your suggestion is to use the Canon camera for pass through instead of my DVX. The DVX is going JVC monitor via S-video...the Canon would be using RCA plugs into the JVC...is the difference betw the two negligible?
