dvc30 zoom speed extremely fast

Not a DVX question, but hopefully I might get an answer anyway (I do own a DVX so hopefully that qualifies me to ask this question)

My DVC30 zoom is INCREDIBLY fast, it's extremely sensitive and we have to barely nudge it to keep it from flying. I'm using a VZ Stealth and it seems to have the same problem as the built-in zoom control on the camera. The zoom speed seems to be the same no matter what speed setting I choose in the menu.

Am I missing something?

My DVC30 is very sensitive. Slight pressure starts slow zoom and it varies continuously such that a full press of the control causes the most rapid zoom I have ever seen. It took me a few days to get used to it - it is unlike any other cam I have used. Now that I am used to it I like it A LOT!! Play around - I suspect you just need to figure out how it works.
 
Well what i'm mostly confused about is why the zoom speed settings in the menu--they don't seem to change at all. Why even put them there?
