DVC30 or HDR-HC1?

Alright... I know I've posted up here before and I got lots of feedback... I just can't ever make a decision... Technology changes so fast...

I'm going to be shooting some weddings and other projects.... I'd like to shoot 16:9 for most weddings... I also need good audio controls...

I have a feeling everyone will say go for the DVC30... so I just want to make sure...

Also, if shooting 16:9 with the DVC30, what's the best way to go? Anamorphic Lens? Squeeze? Letterbox? Thanks

Andris

I have the DVC30 and I love it. As for the audio controls, you will need to purchase the additional XLR audio adapter but it is worth it. Any other adapter that supplies phantom power is about $100 more. I like shooting in letterbox mode but I haven't shot with the squeeze mode yet so I couldn't tell you about it.

The camera is very durable as well (fell off my truck while going about 20 mph), it bounced a few times but it still works (although the LCD clip is broken). Also, for the price, the DVC30 produces a very nice image. I just finished a doc in which I used the DVC30 and it looks great. I couldn't be happier with it.

Good luck with whichever camera you choose.

I really don't think you want to mess with an anamorphic adapter for weddings. The setup and handling wont fly well when you are shooting from the hip. Can't ask the bride and groom to "re shoot"

Oh, I don't know about a reshoot...after all, isn't the DIRECTOR ALWAYS IN CHARGE G#@ D@^N IT!?

Any thoughts on the Sony PDX10? Good or Crap?

And how does the PV-GS400 compare to the DVC30?

No camera [prosumer] shoots real 16:9 - Just squeeze or letterbox

The PDX10 has 3 1/4.7" CCDs

The DVC30 has 3 1/4" CCDs

I would go over the camera features and specs to see what you like better. I would go for the DVC30, but that is just purely my choice and has no scientific reason. It's the DVX's little brother.

i use a dvx100b and dvc30. I shoot in squeeze mode, never letterbox. I can do that in post if need be,

the dvc30 has a nice nightvision feature and is light and great for handhelds

Does the squeeze mode look blurry at all? I hear since it's digitally squeezing the image, it doesn't look as sharp... Do you notice that? or anyone else that sees your work?

The PV-GS400 also has three 1/4.7" CCDs. No scene files, though will approximate 24p and a "cinegamma" type look, only in 16:9 mode. Great camera, though, and will shoot off an emergency 4MP picture when needed. I'd go with the 30 if you can.
