dvc-30 movie mode vs. 24p of dvx

Have any of you guys compared the two side by side? If so how much of a difference is there in image quality. The reviews of the dvc 30 say that the cine like mode rivals that of the dvx 100.
If going straight to dvd is there really a difference between the two in terms of final image quality?
Thanks

"Quality" can mean so many different things. Clarity, sharpness, color saturation, color faithfulness . . . or intangible aesthetic concerns which vary from person to person.

The draw to 24p is that it looks like film. This is one of those aesthetic concerns. The image quality of the DVX's 60i modes is as excellent, but it doesn't look the same. It doesn't have the same flavor. It doesn't have the same feel.

The DVC30's cine-like mode will not be the same as the DVX's 24p. It can't be, because it's not the same process. You yourself may decide that the difference in image isn't worth the difference in price, but it won't be the same.

I've heard that the dvc30 is a good camera to pair up with the dvx100 for a 2-camera shoot, as long as you're not shooting in 24p.

I'd assume that the DVC30, if in 60i, would be the best camera to pair the DVX with, if you absolutely can't get a DVX.

But I wouldn't know, never having used the DVC30...

Well, I think a DVC80 would match more seamlessly with a DVX's 60i mode.

Unless you can't afford the DVC80...and if you can, you're better off getting another DVX100 :):)

I recently paired a DVC80 with my DVX100a for a wedding that I was shooting.  Unfortunatly, things did not turn out as I had expected.  First I set up the DVC80 with the settings that I wanted.  I then matched the settings with the 100a.  Even with the available settings of the DVC80 matching exactly those of the 100a, the 80 was much inferior in picture quality.  The dynamic range is no where near that of the 100a, and the colors are no where near as vibrant in qualtity.  Ultimatly I had to do a lot of color correcting to get the 80 to even remotly match the 100a.  Here are some picts.

Now you tell me which is which

Wow; huge difference. A guy here at a camera shop in the chi' explained to me that the dvx's ability to shoot progressive also has a lot to do with the difference in image quality.

I just got my dvc-30 a little over a week ago just before an over seas trip. I took the dvc-30 with me because of it's compact size. It's really a fun little camera to use and the pic quality is awesome for the size CCD's. Haven't had time to compare it's movie mode with the DVX yet. I shot a friends baby christening Saturday with both cameras in 60i. I'll look at that footage this week and post my comments.

I actually tried a side by side with those two at BH. DVC 30 and 100. when you first see 30 with it's 30p(but not really p) movie mode, it looks more filmic than say, canon's frame mode. i was impressed... then i looked over to dvx100 24p in motion.... following that little train they had, then i followed with the 30...
then the 100. then the 30... and there was a FAT difference. with 24p, you watch it and you feel the warmth, the cinematic latitude. the 30 was impressive. and i wish i had it for a secondary shoot, but it wasn't quite 24p, some of you will try to compromise, think it out in your head , try to save money, or comptemplate in whatever way that it's not all that different but trust me... IT IS DIFFERENT.

Yeah the 80 was the bottom. The gamma curve was set the same as the 80, I believe it was just the mid setting, no cine-gamma. It is an amazing difference. I'm just happy that I have the 100a not the 80.
