DV vtr's

I am looking into getting a MiniDV deck of some sort to digitize and rewind tapes to save on the DVX heads.

Is the SONY GV-D1000 the cheapest? Do they just make a deck with firewire to digitize that's more basic than this? I have heard many people buying MiniDV cameras from eBay to serve this purpose as well. Does anyone know if there's anything in between?

I also want to know why people buy deck instead of cheap camcorders. I know there must have something more but what? Talking about deck between 1000 and 1500$

Re: DV vtr's

All these decks that are $1000 and up have all these features that I would probably never use. Why doesn't a simple deck that plays, rewinds, fast forwards for digitizing exist? I would pay $300-$400 for one. That's what I would pay for a used camcorder. It wouldn't even have to record for my purposes.

What the hell do I need an LCD screen for? It looks like Sony made one that didn't have a screen but that looks to be discontinued.

Better yet, fit one in a 5 1/2" drive bay case and slip it in your computer.

Re: DV vtr's

I am planning on getting the Sony GVD1000 deck. I just wonder why other companies don't have anything portable like that to give it some competition. I think JVC makes one. Panasonic did have one but I think its discontinued by now.

Re: DV vtr's

They don't exist. I have often times wondered when someone will finally come out with one.

Excuse me!
Does anyone else fine Braw's signature video clip offensive.
Or is it just me?

I can change it if it is. It's a clip of an effect I did for a movie.

Are you serious? I hope you're joking. If you find it offensive don't look at it.

WaveRiderXIX, I know I should buy the DSR-45 but i'm not sure I can afford it. Is the DSR-11 going to do the job for a personnal use and some little project for the moment? I'm not going to use it for industrial use and capture hours of footage everyday.
