DV vs HDV

First off, I'm sorry if this topic has been brought up before, I've tried to search for it and I couldn't find anything that helped greatly..

ok.. So I was looking to either get a DVX100a/b or a Sony HVR-Z1U... I'm pretty familiar with the DVX because my brother owns one and i've played around with it. but I'm finally ready to get my own cam. and I was wondering now with the sony HDV cam if I should go with that. I've read a lot of things about how HDV editing is a lot harder and that DV looks way better than HDV on the big screen, whereas HDV is awesome for just personal family memories etc... So basically it all boils down to as I'm looking to stat filming short films and then eventually some feature lengths and I was wondering everyones opinion if the DVX was a better choice than the HVR.

(the reason I'm not getting the HVX is simply price... as of right now I cannot allocate that much funds to the camera and I've read that the HVR is a decent and not too expensive camera)

thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope I explained my situation clear.

Ok, simple answer: Get the DVX.

But you would be cheating yourself if you didn't try them both out.

They are apples and oranges.

For cinematic-style film work, it's not even close.

The ONLY advantage the FX1 has is spatial resolution. And that advantage is sunk -- obliterated -- by every disadvantage and every compromise you have to make in order to mimic what the DVX does for that style of work.

That's not the case with every HDV camcorder, but it is the case with the FX1.

Who told you DV looks better than HDV on a large screen. If I was in the market for a new camera, and right now I am, I would give more of a look at the Canon A1, especially over the FX1. As far as the DVX vs the A1, well I'm keeping my DVX, but from what I have seen so far, the A1 has the ability to look just as good as the DVX, but at a higher resolution, can't get much better than that at this price point.
