DV Sachtler Tripods

Any one that has a Sacthler tripod, could please tell me if the only way to lock the legs from closind by accident is to have the spreader in place?

If that is the only way, that means you have to carry (when you move from one location to another) the camera in one hand, the tripod on the other and also will need another hand to carry the spreader?

I am considering the DV-4II since it handles up to 16 lbs. that way I can use it with the Sony DSR 300 and with the DVX100 when I use one or the other.

Thank you

I have the DV2. The spreader stays on the legs as you move it around. The legs are very stiff but there is no locking devise except the spiked feet. 8)

Elvis,

Thank you for the information.

Just to clarify;you have to move the tripod with the legs open?

Thanks!

Re: DV Sachtler Tripods

Nope, The spreader does fold up with the legs if you want it to. And I keep mine that way in the tripod case Remember the spreader is also adjustable. Giving you a small footprint or a large very sturdy footprint. Also just to be clear the spreader attaches firmly to the legs. And you can move the tripod with them open or closed.

By the way at the shoot I was doing last Saturday. I was moving all around this studio. And I keeped everthing lock down when I changed positions. Meaning the pan and tilt locks. Worked great! One piece unit Two hands. 8)

Elvis,

Thank you for the very useful information.
I am glad I asked. I will go ahead and purchase it.

Re: DV Sachtler Tripods

Jose, I think you well be very pleased. I know I am! The spreader takes some time to get used to. Are you getting the single stage legs or the two stage legs?8)

Re: DV Sachtler Tripods

Jose. I just noticed on your link it says up 16lbs. Depending on your center of gravity might want to make sure about the balance of the DSR300. I bought mine for the DVX100 only! 8)

Re: DV Sachtler Tripods

Elvis,

I am hoping it will work since the Bogen that I have right now is very heavy (23 Lbs.) which makes it very hard to carry on one hand and the DSR 300 (15 Lbs.) on the other hand.
