DV Rack

NO CA$H

Veteran
I just went to the serious magic website and watched the video on the DV Rack software. This program seems awesome. Do any of you use it and like it? Does the record feature eliminate the need for a deck?

I need to get an editing system soon and I don't have enough money to get a laptop for DV rack alone so i'd like to put vegas 6.0 on their too. What are the cons of editing on a laptop?

Thanks in advance

If you do a search for DV Rack you should get a ton of results. From what ive read on here people love it. They have a free 30 day demo on their site that is fully functional so check that out. You can use DV Rack and a USB/Firewire drive so that you can put the footage on your desktop later.

I love it. Its great in getting the maximum picture from your cam in controlled environments. I run a Dell Inspiron 8600, 1.4Ghz, 512/60GB w/ a 15' Firewire cable and love it. :)

Could I use this laptop (Alienware) as my main editing comp?

No Ca$h - I have this very laptop you are looking at and I run DV Rack on it. It works like a dream. That's not really a laptop though.... more like a portable desktop. It's freakin huge! My only gripe is the battery. I'm lucky to get 45-50minutes on a full charge but that's the price for running the gigantic 17" display/two hd's/two drives/integrated wireless.... And don't buy the cool looking aluminum case they push for transportation. The laptop barely fits in it with no room for the power supply, mouse, etc.....

damn only 50 minutes??? I bet the extra batterys cost an arm and a leg too.

Thats basically what i was looking for... a portable desktop. All these new latops have these intel centrino processors that are too slow.

DV Rack is the shizzit. It's great. I literally set up a "video village" where the director was monitoring the shoot, and if we had a question on the quality we would review it right there. I use a 50' firewire cable no problems.

Only drawback - fireware cable with steadicam (glidecam) doesn't work worth beans.
