DV Playback Device

I am trying to capture DV footage from the DVX100A and was wondering if there were any other options than paying a grand for a Sony GVD-1000 to playback my DV tapes into my computer. I don't want to wear down the heads of the DVX100A and was wondering if I used a cheaper camera if the footage would remain the same. Would I still be able to capture the 24FPS? Thanks.

It is perfectly fine to use a cheaper camera as a deck. Do a search in the hardware forum and see what you find on this subject. Should be lots. Here's one for ya to get you started:

You can also use a Sony GVD-300, which is a mini-dv deck with no LCD screen,

or a GVD-900, which is the older version of the 1000...you may find that one cheaper.

JVC also makes some cheaper DV decks...the SR-VS30U comes to mind....you can pick up a used one for 500-600 dollars....but they are kindof cheap.
