DV Footage Pixelated in Vegas - Any Ideas?

Hi Guys, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.
I'm experiencing pixelated footage when I import either an MXF or AVI file in to Vegas.

I'm doing a tutorial video with 3 cameras for various angles. The footage is intended for online and some for DVD so I have set my HVX200 to DVPRO 576i/25p in order to fall record the same as the other two smaller standard DV cams.

The HVX is recording to P2 media and both MXF and Avi will play fine if clicked on, eg they will open WMP and play just fine. Its when I import into Vegas Pro 8.0 that I get the pixelated footage problem.

If anyone can explain if I'm doing anything wrong, I'd really appreciate it - thanks.

Make sure your project properties are set correctly. Do a "match media" on that dialog by clicking the yellow icon. Also, make sure your are on "preview (auto)" or "preview (full)" preview quality and not on "draft (auto)".

Timeline settings aren't causing this problem. There's some wonky codec stuff going on there.

Are you using Raylight?

Wait. When I replied the above this picture was NOT loaded on my browser. This is definitely codec bug, or similar technical problem and not user error.

Hi guys, many thanks for the quick response. I am using Raylight to import MXF into Vegas.

I did some tests last night and came up with the following:

If I record either DVPro or DV - Vegas pixelates it as per the image I uploaded above, but If I record in DVCPro50, then Vegas imports and plays just fine with absolutely no pixelation.

I did send off an MXF file to Raylight to get their expert opinion on this issue when it happened a few weekes ago, but they were as confused as I was!!

So perhaps Vegas has a DVCPro50 bare minimum using the Raylight Codec?

I'm now capturing a standard DV tape from a second overhead camcorder I'll be using to mix into this footage, I'll post my findings as I progress through.

It only happens with DVCPRO PAL. We are working on the problem and should have it fixed soon. For new projects shoot DV-PAL or DVCPRO50 PAL instead if possible.

Thanks mvb, I'll look out for the update. I have tried DVCPro50 and it seems to be fine, I haven't yet tried DV, so I'll check that out also.

Just a quick update to my pixelating footage issue:

It was a codec problem as a couple of you said. A huge thanks to all at DV Film who found an issue with one of their .dll files in the codec and they worked with me until it was resolved.

Customer service and satisfaction is quite rare these days and I for one am proud to give praise where it's due. The team at DV Film should be applauded for their efforts and dedication to resolving this issue over the last few weeks,

Well Done and thank you very much.
