DV DECK HELP

Does anyone here have any experience with the JVC SR-VS30U deck? I am looking to get a decent (read "CHEAP") deck, a true one, instead of another cheap camera. Its confusing as all get out when you try to figure out which is the best deal out there.

Aprreciate any feedback

Re: DV DECK HELP

I have experience with the JVC HR-DVS2, kind of the forerunner of the VS30U deck. I've never had a moments trouble with it. It is recognized in my system under XP, going into a plain jane IE1394 connection, into Vegas 5. It also is recognized into my Canopus Storm card, direct into Edius.

The only strange thing I've had happen is with the SVHS side. When I record on to the SVHS, it won't play back in one of my TV/VCR combo's. It plays back fine out of the deck itself, but won't play in a variety of VHS tape decks I've tried. Probably something I did. :P

I have three SR-VS30U decks here. Are you sure you're not recording in SVHS mode instead of VHS?

Probably. I use another deck for VHS recording, so I probably have the setting incorrect on the DVS2.

Re: DV DECK HELP

the only DV rewinder i've used is this Kinyo hunk 'o junk. Roughly half of all tapes put into it that are less then 1/2 way wound wind up getting eaten. It's very poorly designed and doesn't seem to have any built in tension sensors, once the tape gets caught up, the motors just keep yanking on it until it's nice and chewed.

avoid the Kinyo like the plague.

Bought the Maxell on ebay. It ate one tape and I threw it away. I am getting ready to buy the JVC HR-DVS3.
