Duvetyne

Just looking around filmtools.com I found this stuff. For one scene in my movie I've been trying to create sharp, controlled shadows on someone's face in a parking garage with general lighting I can't change. If I made a wall of this stuff hanging between 2 C-stands, right behind the camera (assuming the actor is close), would that put him completely in shadow so that I could then use my own lights on the actor, but not lose the lighting of the background?

Thanks.

It is possible to completely block out other light sources, yes. You'd have to make sure that you have enough, positioned properly, so that it blocks any direct light from the other light sources hitting your subject.

IMO the cheap stuff is just as good at fraction of price. Just get black fabric at a store. If your using it in a high temperature situation then duvetyne is the way to go.

Duvetyne is soaked in flame retardent material. I wouldn't risk any alternative.
