Dust inside my anamorphic adapter!

Can you tell how to fix this? Is it safe to open the lens and get the dust out or am I screwed?

Also, does anybody know the best way to clean the outside part the lens? I feel like I am going to scratch it by the just wiping it with a lens tissue.

I bought the adapter used a few weeks ago and am just starting to use it, but see there is a few dust specks inside the lens.

good information on general lens cleaning can be found in the faq section of both the Century Optics and Schneider Optics websites www.centuryoptics.com or www.Schneideroptics.com the info is the same as Century is a division of Schneider.

A word of caution, I would not use any acetone on the Anamorphic elements while they are assembled in the plastic housing as the acetone might attack the plastic. I would stick to water based cleaners.

The housing is relatively easy to disassemble but if done by an inexperienced person, there is always the chance of damage and/or incorrect re-assembly-- I realize it is only two pieces of glass, but getting them seated properly is important to avoid upsetting the alignment and degrading the image quality.

As an aside, we (Century Optics) purchased two units from Japan before they were available from Panasonic USA. Both units required cleaning. The good news was that in so doing we re-aligned one of them, vastly improving the image.

I would recommend spending the money to have the inside cleaned by a professional to minimize the risk. I have no idea if replacement elements are available if one should be damaged, you might have to simply replace the whole unit.
