Dust Blob Problem On Canon EOS500d

Hi,

I just now only found out that theres a mild dust blob spot on the center of my pictures. Its visible against pure light blue skies as a blurred dot (As most blobs are visible agianst sky blue more than any other color). The blob is right in the center of the frame but sorta blurred and out of focus and seem to be more evident in wide shots. Im feeling bad. The camera is just approx 4 days old. :(.

Also another speck is visible in the left corner of my frame but only thru the viewfinder. This speck doesnt appear in any of my pictures. I also removed the lens and looked thru the viewfinder only to find the speck still there. So its not on the lens. Its probably on the mirror ? or inside the viewfinder ?

Thanks

You should see my 5D pics when I shoot the sky at f11. You can try to blow some air on the sensor with a rocket blower, or clean the sensor yourself with the some sensor swabs. Or of course take it somewhere to have it professionally cleaned. I use canned air, but I am extremely careful to hold the bottle upright so no liquids spray out, and I make sure the straw doesn't fire into the camera body and damage anything. I don't recommend this method unless you are a skilled canned air operator like myself. :)

Yes, when I shoot the sky with the aperture stopped down, i have a lot of dust spots. I have become quite friendly with the clone tool in Photoshop.

The 5D is notorious for dust on the sensor...and the viewfinder, and the mirror. Changing lenses will expose the sensor to dust, there isn't much you can do about it, except clean your sensor.

Actually, you can map stubborn dust spots for removal with the included software. In addition, make sure you're using the in-camera sensor cleaning mechanism. When you change lenses, do so in a relatively clean environment and try not to hold your camera facing up.

Its a new camera and ive never opened the lens except for the one time i came home and fixed it on. After the purchase. Since then the lens has stayed on. Probably the dust got in at the shop where i bought it. That ass in the store opened the body cap under a wall fan that was blowing right under his head. And thats where he showed us fixing the lens on and off. I was insisiting he turn it off, but he seemed to know it all and said its nothing to be worried about. At home i even turn off the AC to have zero criculation. Techincally speaking i was thinking to do lens changes in the shower, after running the shower for about 5 mins. They advise such techniques for placing on screen protectors etc. Since theres hardly any airborne dust there.

What a bunch of monkeys working for a canon authorised camera shop.

So i think what you guys mean is if i take this in to canon for service just for this, its likely it might come back even worse with something else wrong right ? More finger prints or stuff like that.

Sacksnack > I understand small spots. They can be corrected in PS. Or using dust delete. This is a a particle which is a causing an out of focus circular blurred spot. Like when theres dust on your specs but its out of focus. Thats not something i can always rely on correcting in PS right. Also when i take Video i can see quite a few such spots. I dont know why its more obvious with Video.
