Dumb Question?

I'm mostly post but I have been doing a fair amount of production lately. For bag work I'm using the MixPre into a Marantz 671 and for fixed work I'm using the Alesis mixer and Boom Recorder. In post I use PT extensively but would not want to do production with it. The reasons are that PT isn't designed for production recording and apps like Boom Recorder are MUCH better in terms of features and ease of use/ stability. But PT is no worse than using say a DAT deck(OK a little better, but not much), assuming your doing cart work. Can't say on the PC side what specialized apps are available but PT certainly works. I suspect that many apps will go multi platform now that every body is running on the same chips. You might want to check out Jef Wexler's site

since that has a lot of users doing production recording to computers. The majority are on Mac's and ask your question thoughtfully since most of the folks there are pro's and are more likely to give specific advice than a very basic advice.
