Dumb question- what is DVD Achitect for?

Ok, Like I've already said in previous posts, I'm new to the video thing. But I've been recording audio for years.

I'm running Vegas 8 pro and DVD Architect 4. I understand what Vegas is......but, besides importing your video projects for burning, what else do you do in DVD Architect?

I'd like to understand what DVD Architect is all about.

Thanks for your time!

It allows you to create more advanced menus, chapter points and what not, where as the editing program might just burn a simple DVD with a very simple menu.

So, is it better to make menus in Vegas or DVD A4?

Would I make scene markers (the equivalent to track markers on an audio CD) in Vegas or DVD A4?

Thanks again.

Usually in an NLE, you get very basic templates. Using the more advanced features in the DVD program, you could do something closer to what you would find on a real "store bought" DVD from a Hollywood Studio... almost ;)

Vegas doesn't make DVD's at all. Not even one without menus from the timeline. All DVD work must be done in DVD Architect. What you might do is use Vegas to make a nice motion background for a DVD menu and then assign that background in DVD Architect as your menu background, but Vegas itself cannot create a DVD.

You can do them in both places. I prefer to make mine in Vegas while I'm editing. When you render your MPEG-2 file in Vegas, remember to check the "include markers" option so that DVD Architect will see them.

DEFINITELY make the markers in Vegas -- much more precise. If you really want to, you can still move them in DVDA.

Problem Burning DVD

Problem Burning DVD

I dont know if I am having a senior moment, but for some reason I cant figure out why I cannot proceed to the Burn DVD portion of Make DVD. After I go through the Prepare and Optim. portions, I get the small "time " window, click off of that and go to the "Burn" button. I click the "Use previously prepared", click "next", but on the Select Burn Parameters" window the top 2/3s of the window is not available to update(faded text). It has the volume name of the last DVD project I did, the only open ares are the "Eject disc when done" box and the "back" button .

It sounds like your DVD burner is not recognized anymore. Is it seen by other software on your PC? What has changed since the last time you used DVD Architect? Something must be different.

I used it about 3 weeks ago.. I do have a problem with the default burner in my laptop and use an external burner. I did check in the properties portion of the external drive to make it the default recording device.
