Dubbing from DVD to Tape?.

I havent tried this yet but before I attempt does anyone know if you put in a project burned to a DVD-R disc be able to dubb that over to a tape? If so, I have to figure out how to tell the camera to read the DVD player in the computer so the dub can happen.

Re: Dubbing from DVD to Tape?.

What exactly do you mean? You can dub from a DVD player to a tape through analog connections, if that's what you're talking about. If you mean that you have DV files on a DVD-R, I'm pretty sure you'd need to copy them back to a hard drive to have enough speed to transfer them to a camera through firewire. To do that, just use your NLE of choice...

Well if I put a DVD-R in my G5 then hook my DVX100 up to the computer your saying I should be able to see and record the footage from the DVD player onto my camera or deck? If so, I will have to give that a try! I just thought that when you wanted to print to tape that you had to actually select something to tell the computer to output to tape. If the dvd is playing how will that work. Were you talking about using a regular dvd player then hooking that up to a VCR or camera?

Yes.

Re: Dubbing from DVD to Tape?.

have you tried that before? I didn't know that would work. So I take the output cables from the dvd player and plug them into the input of the vcr or camera then everything should work?

Re: Dubbing from DVD to Tape?.

Assuming the DVD has no copy protection (DVD-R's don't), it should work "fine" - fine meaning that your losing some quality with D/A then A/D conversion. But it should be fine for non-distribution purposes...
