I'm trying the trial program.
It won't do anything but AVI and MOV files. That is inconvenient for everything but my 7D.

Am I losing any image quality going from MP4 to AVI then back?

Is it cross platform? I thought it was only Mac. On a Mac (and maybe Win?) MOV files are just media that wrapped for Quick Time. What Quick Time will play depends on what codecs you have installed. So you can play anything (just about) as an MOV file. MP4 is h.264, I think (might be wrong o that) so Quick Time should have no problem playing it. You might well be able to change the file extension to .mov and have it play fine in Quick Time. Unless your on a PC there is no good reason to go to AVI, since it's mostly a Windows format with hit and miss support on the Mac.

People may argue but there are very few good reasons to edit in a highly compressed format like h.264. If you convert your high compression footage to a lower compression codec (highly recommended), then as a rule you should stay there till the end.

In terms of image quality, yes there is going to be some minor hit (if your using a quality converter (if the converter is dodgy then all bets are off)). But if you edit in the long GOP codec it will need to do that conversion round trip EVERY time you edit or put a filter on, etc. So you will be doing a lot more of those conversion round trips.

I am using a windows machine Noiz.
Mp4 is H.264 and I hadn't thought about changing the extension. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I hit another snag I need to try to work out now. It starts to extracts the audio from the video and at about a quarter way through, just stops and thinks...for hours. This is in an AVI. The system has plenty of resources and the program doesn't lock up, it just hangs at that point.

It may be easier to just keep syncing the way I've been doing it. So far I haven't seen anything worth $149.00.

Originally Pluraleyes only worked with FCP so...

Personally I don't have a problem syncing takes so the incentive is low for me. I can see using it if you have a LOT of clips and especially if you have a multi recordings for each take. Providing it works well, of course.

So far I'm not really impressed.
This clip is a test and I had two cameras going and The zoom H4n.

I synced each one using the clapper spike in about 30 seconds and they were short enough I didn't have to stretch them.
I took one f the same clips and have been fooling with it for about 8 hours in Dualeyes.

I just downloaded Plural eyes for Premier Pro just to see if it's any better but I'm not going to spend all night on it.
