I bought a Sony UWP-C1 wireless lav system for all the usual reasons. Later, it occurred to me that having a wireless handheld mic would be useful for situations where I had to tape field interviews of multiple persons by my on-camera talent in a 'run-and-gun' situation.
The Sony wireless transmitter for a XLR mic is pretty expensive - about the cost of buying another complete wireless system.
Since the lav mic connector to the Sony transmitter is a 3.5mm stereo plug, I thought why not put my Rode NT-3 on a XLR-to-3.5mm stereo cable and try it?
Well - it works fine. So I now have both lav and handheld wireless at no additional cost. (I have a DVX-100B with XLR inputs, but had the cable for use with cameras that had only 3.5mm external mic inputs.)
If you have a wireless lav and also want a wireless handheld - you might try it - just get a cable that has a compatible transmitter connector on one end and an XLR for your handheld mic on the other.
