Dual Monitors and After Effects?

Hey there, first post!

I have two monitors hooked up to my Geforce6800 Ultra, when I goto the Nvidia settings and tell the card to auto-select a full screen device, all the video that plays in in my primary monitor and Premiere (Source and Program windows) is displayed in full screen on my secondary monitor...I can't seem to get this to work with AE. I have everything set as it should in Video Preview settings, but nothing is displayed on my secondary monitor except my desktop background...Any ideas?

I have exactly the same card and I haven't been able to do that in After Effects either. I just use the second monito to hold the preview window, and have the left monitor have the workspace. I haven't tried setting the resolution down on the right monitor, as I need it to be the same for different apps. My adivice is to get an old sony handycam or some such, run firewire to it, and have it run to an NTSC Monitor or TV, and then set your video preview options in AE to output via IEEE. That's what I do, and it works great. any changes I make, ram previews, and all other goodies are shown on a nice secondary display.

Hmmm, that's quite a mission though. What's the difference between the software that the one can display on a second monitor easily but the other cant?

I think AE only outputs previews through firewire...

I'm pretty sure this is the case as well. I know they just added video preview in 6.5. Like Rapier said, I put my comp preview window on one screen and the rest on another.

I have the same video card and found this one trick works for anything video to be played full screen on that 2nd monitor.

In windows, right click on a video file such as wmv or avi and that menu should have a selection for "play on my tv."

now stop that video from playing. once that "play on my tv" is acctivated the first time, all video, including embedded video such as apple quicktime movies within a webpage will play on that monitor full screen.

now when i'm in a DVD creation program, premiere, AE, vegas, a video splitting utility.... whatever, it will play full screen. to turn it off, you gotta restart.

I hope this possibly helped.

( I have found this most beneficial when playing all of the HD clips in this forum for the HVX camera.... and there it is on my HD tv. )

I have a question mostly relating to this... I know this thread is a few months old... I've been googling and searching the forums for an answer but I don't know enough yet/ can't find the right answer.

Anyway, I have a computer running PPro 2.0 (computer is 3.0gHz, 2.5 gbs RAM, a dual output nVidia 7800 GS 256 mb card) I have each out put of the video card running to a monitor and they work together where I can move windows between each monitor. I just bought a 21" 3rd monitor which has analogue inputs, DVI, component, and rcas as well. I can do the old camcorder trick via firewire from the computer through the cam, then from s video out of the cam to the monitor for a fullscreen preview during editing. Now, how do I set it up for previewing HD (hdv) on that monitor? I see stuff about decklink cards etc... Can I use one of then cards along with my current nvidia card?

What about the matrox dualhead2go (or something) boxes? Where it can split one of the outputs....so you'd have 3?
