Dual Monitor Issue - Jerky video in CS4.2.1

Hi all,

I have built a new i7 computer with 12G RAM and I have put in a relatively cheap video card Nvidia GeForce 9600GT. I have two 19" monitors (Dell 1905FP) connected to it. My motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD4P. I have the video card in one of the PCIe 16x slots (there are two on my motherboard).

Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 works fine when I have it on one monitor only, however if I scretch the application over the two monitors, playback is jerky. I have even tried to keep CS4 on one monitor and undocked some windows and moved them to the second monitor. But still get jerky video.

Note that I have installed the latest NVidia drivers (195.62) with no success.

Any suggestions to get me moving? I really find it hard to use Premiere on one monitor. Never had a problem with previous versions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Right click your desktop and go into Nvidia Control panel. Under "Manage 3D Settings" scroll down until you see multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration and play around with those different settings. Try setting it to either multiple display, single display or compatibility mode and see if any of that makes a difference.
That's just a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the second two options and the situation became worse, so I put it back to multiple display.

Interesting that the situation became worse... which makes me wonder is it a hardware issue. I have a pretty fast computer, lots of RAM, and I am only trying to playback standard definition DV with no transitions. This should be a piece of cake for a computer of this speed. My 10 year old computer could do this easily. Hmmm

Any other suggestions... from anyone?

Hmmm... interesting. According to that, it sounds like it could possibly be something to do with the video card. The CPU and the RAM certainly couldn't be the problem, though the video card shouldn't either. Have you tried different video card drivers? You could try using the latest driver (if you're not already) or if you're already on the latest version you could try using an older one.
You should definitely be able to play back simple DV with those specs.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

I already had the latest video card drivers installed with the same problem.

After the previous posts I decided that it was a video cad performance although it didn't make sense to me as my 10 year older computer with a video card of 16MB of RAM out performed this one with 1GB RAM.

So I added a second video card (a GeForce 7200), and now it works well!

Thanks to everyone for your help. I hope my experience can help others in the future.

Also I suggest to switch off all fancy Windows 7 screen appearance options.

Cheers!
