Dual Monitor Help

NO CA$H

Veteran
Ok I just bought a new Dell and Dual 19inch Monitors. Both monitors have DVI but my video card (Radeon X300) has only one DVI connector and the other one is VGA.

Is there an adapter I could buy that can adapt a male DVI to a female VGA?
And would RadioShack have them?

Of course, why wouldn't it? I've used an adapter like that, that came with my G5, worked fine.

The card was in the dell so I guess Dell kept it.
I went all the way to Radioshack and they didn't have it!!!

yup, thats what you need. not only do they usualy come with gcards, they also come with almost every monitor as well. we have boxes full of those little guys.

any electronic/computer store should have them. check compusa or something.

I went to Circuit City too and they didn't have any so I just used the World Wide Web.

Usually the ATI cards only come with the adapters to adapt VGA monitors to DVI.

Be careful with those adapters and ATI cards. My ATI card is SLIGHTLY different on the DVI port... it may have been early models, but there was a time when ATI thought it was cool to make their adapters proprietary, even though it's supposed to be standard. I had to order a converter directly from ATI as the one I bought locally didn't match with some tiny notch ATI seems to like to add to their ports.

Again, hopefully this is no longer a practice.

theres going to be a noticeable difference in the image between the dvi-d and the vga-dvi-d, but your 19's take both dvid and vga, i should know cause i have one.

scratch that, i have the 20. whoops.

I ordered the adapter and it came today but its not working.

Both monitors are ON and the left one is plugged in to the DVI connector on the card and the other one is plugged in to the VGA connector with the adapter. I went to display settings and tried checking the EXTEND MY WINDOWS DESKTOP ONTO THIS MONITOR box but its not working.

AHHHHH! I need a cigarette!

Is it even possible to plug two LCDs into a dual head card? Don't you need two video cards?

what is your graphics card? i handle dual support through the nvidia driver. doing it through windows is the jank jank. sankes on a plane, you know.

go to ati's website and download the latest catalyst drivers for the x300. install them, restart, then pull up the utility in the advanced tabbed for the display button for the control panel. it will have monitor device preferences which is where you will apply the dual desktop options....

Everytime I enable the second monitor I press Apply and it disables it.

The second monitor the one with the DVI to VGA adapter doesn't even make that sound when I unplug it.

What do you mean? They both plug into individual outs.

Has anyone here ever used dual LCD monitors (Both DVI) with a dual head video card? The video card has one female DVI out and the other one is a female VGA out. I used an adapter to adapt one of the DVI LCDs to a male VGA. Only one monitor is working and the other is a black screen.

I've been trying to figure this out for hours.
