Dual Layer DVD ?

Does anyone burn dual layer DVD? With the march of technology should we be going this way to keep up? I know nothing about this medium, only what I read, but it seems to me that as soon as I get setup with something, along comes another product to make it obsolete! what are your thoughts?

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

I'm gonna give it awhile before I jump into that. The drives are cheap, but the discs are still around $10 each in these parts.

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

And, if I am remembering correctly, they are not nearly as functional on set top DVD players as single layer (which are already bad enough).

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

MrBeaker, are we going to see some clips of your movie?
You are ahead of me, I don't own one yet, for once! I have always been waiting for things to hit the market & race to buy. I had a DVD burner for a year before I found suitable softwear  >:( This time I think I will sit on the fence for a while.
$ wise, our $ is getting better, about $0.78 this morning, that makes everything that much more expensive. If there were to be a lot more reliability or longevity I may consider it for some things.

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

Not worth it at the moment. Blanks are $10.00 - :(
If you have more than two hours of media that you need on one disc, just build the DVD as a folder on your HD then run it through DVD2One. Works great, and it's fast. The compression is not that bad either... :D

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

It wasn't that so much, I was wondering about the future compatibility of the media we are using at the moment, ie; DVD-r/+r . I don't have problems with more than 2hr on a disk with the programs I use now. Just hoping I can use them for a few more years! :-/

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

I seriously doubt your going to have any problem with a dvd-r within the next couple years, so take a breath and forget about a new format for a while.

Re: Dual Layer DVD ?

and for software for burning and dvd backup ;) get nero, its a dream, dvd decrcyptor squeezes one of those two siders onto a cheap one sided disk, easy peasy
