Dual Layer DVD problem

I’m almost finished with a project that I’m burning to Dual Layer DVD+R and what I’m running into is that the DVDs will play on the computers but not on the DVD player. Yes, I’ve checked the player and it plays all types (-R +R -RW +RW). I'm using DVD Studio Pro 4.

Have you all run into any problems like this? Do you know at all what might be the problem

As I'm researching more it's looking like Production houses don't like Dual Layer DVDs. The production house is busy as of the moment... does anyone know information on what needs to be sent to them?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Some replicators may not prefer to master from a DVD-R DL, but it is definitely doable. I've had this done many times. They ingest your files and make a "Glass Master" that they will use in the process.

As far as why it won't play back for you... Does it play in the computer? Did you check on other DVD players? Is the DVD disc compliant and authored properly? What type of DL media are you using? There is a lot of junk out there. So many thinks could be wrong. We'd all be just venturing a guess.

You need to look at your process step by step...

I burn DL's all the time using IMGBurn, and it is one of the best for DL's and never had any problems at the layer break.

You have to be very careful about dual layer DVD. Most cheap media you can successfully buirn a DVD DL which will play in computer but not in setup DVD player. I tried several brands and found out Verbatile DVD DL is most compatible. Go check it out.

The other critical issue is the layer jump point. Both layers has to have about the same data. So your jump point if not fall into a DVD movie chapter point, you will have half a second pause during playback. However, most people won't notice that.

I authored the DVD DL in Encore and export to DVD folders. Then I use ImgBurn to burn the disk. ImgBurn will calculate and suggest the best spot for the layer jump.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks guys for your quick replies. I don't know why it worked, but I ended up renaming the DVD Studio Pro project and burned another DVD. It works! Weird... that's all I can say. Thanks for the help though.

I also got a hold of the production company and they do take Dual Layer DVDs.

Thanks again.
