I got my Sony DSR-11 and it will mostly play Panny MQ tapes but they game me a Sony DVM-4CLD cleaning cassette. Should I use this one for my DVX or by a Panasonic one?

haha are they wet too? or a cleaning cassette can't be wet or dry?
I asked this same question a long while back. I never got a straight answer, only the question "why would you put different types of tape in?" So, if you find out lemme know. I'm thinking cleaning tape is cleaning tape.

On the very few occasions where I needed to clean the DSR's heads, I just popped the Sony cleaning cassette in. No problems and I use all Panny tapes in the deck. I know this is backwards from what you are talking about - but I don't think it really matters. I have a Panasonic cleaning cassette in the cam case, and a Cannon one floating around somewhere too.

so many schools of thought on this....use a cleaning tape, clean heads manually, on and on and on.

i have a dvx and a dsr 11.

i bought a panasona cleaning tape for the camera and have the sony tape for the deck.

i spoke to panasonic, evs...a number of places for the proper information on whether to use these or not.

i also have worked in broadcast television for over 25 years where we have always cleaned heads by hand.

what did i find out?

don't use the tapes unless the heads ask to be cleaned; ie, a "red" X on the camera display, or moddled video from the deck. don't use the cleaning tapes as "preventive maintenance," to keep the heads from getting dirty. only use them when the heads ARE dirty, and ONLY use them AS directed.

use the panny in the panny and the sony in the sony.

i feel comfortable doing it this way. if i run into problems, i won't like it, but i guess that's what warranties are for.

if you know how to clean heads manually, and feel comfortable doing it, then do it.
but the MANUFACTURERS recommend using the tapes.

why? to make money? you use the tape and ruin your deck and it has to be repaired? i don't think so. doesn't make sense. we have a sony rep - a number of them at the my TV station. they are all decent guys and for the most part, really know what they are talking about. we trust them with millions of dollars of equipment.

for what it's worth...
