Photography STILL

My buddy and I both did similar lighting coincidentally. Strong backlight, directly behind a subject with smoke. The Photographer also had a flash (on his camera I believe) for fill. I wanted to compare them side by side to see the difference with motion blur and latitude detail. However, both are graded. Actually in FCP. Same effect.

I shot video in 720 24pn with my HVX200a and Letus adapter. F stop range from 1.4 on a 50mm. ASA would be somewhere around 100 I guess and the photographer was rocking out a 7d. I do not know any of the settings he was shooting at. Like I said, this set up was a coincidence.

Yeah, you need to be more clear.

You are comparing a DSLR still frame to a grabbed frame from an HVX?

That makes no sense.

I apologize. A friend who is a photographer shot stills, (not video) that had the same lighting set up as I did. I shot video, the photographer shot stills. I had the stills/video and decided to compare the images and post it to show how similar the quality of the images are. Because the rant and rave about DSLRs these days I wanted to show a comparison of the cameras. Even when you compare a still from a 7d to a video still of a HVX/Letus, the quality of a 7d is slightly better than actual 720 video footage.

I thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

If I am understanding the inflection correctly, you are saying a still from the 7D is only slightly better from a still recorded with an HVX at 720p?

If so I would say that is pretty much impossible, unless the operator really, really screwed up. Maybe at the 500ish pixel resolution you have here, but not at really anything above that. The 7D in still mode is going to blow the HVX out of the water every single time.

This is why I posted it. If you take a gander at the still you can judge the images yourself. They are not stills of charts the stills are from the same set up.

The point I was trying to make without sounding cocky, is that the stills show the importance of the cameraman. Supporting that point are stills.

It is not that a cameraman screwed up. If you look at the stills, they don't look screwed up. The photographer (who I will not say the name of) shot those two stills is rated extremely high in the Philadelphia area. Its about talent.

But now I sound cocky and I am going to pass out after getting back from the bar.

I don't understand what you're saying, or what the point of this thread is.

If you're trying to say that the 7D produces better images, then yes. It sure as hell does. It looks much better and will always look much better (as William already pointed out)

I don't get why you think you sound cocky. Are you trying to say that you produced better images or something?
