Drove My Chevrolet to the Levee

What an idiot.... "Chevy" IS a brand name. Chevrolete=Chevy, Apple=Mac=Macintosh, Coke=Coca Cola, Windows=P.O.S. lol

Really. Everyone knows that a Ford-versus-Chevy debate is the proper follow-on, to mention of Chevys...

God you cant buy that kind of brand identity... To drop chevy is to drop wht EVERY company is the world wants! a instantly recognizable brand identity!

GM FAIL!!!!!!

I don't hold with none of that Frenchy talk.

*edit* of course the fact that their focus appears to be on what the product is *called* rather than its actual virtues as a product, kind of suggests that GM has not learned much of anything from the last fifteen or twenty years.

I love how the memo talks about the consistency of Coke, but fails to mention Coke is shorthand for Coca-Cola.

Seriously, anyone who doesn't know Chevy = Chevrolet probably isn't inclined or in a position to buy one anyways.

Just heard that Mercedes will soon unveil a new brand identity in the form of a change to the classic trefoil-in-a-circle brand symbol.

Must be catching, or something...

How in tarnation do you get a Mac vs. PC debate out of a story about Chevrolet? Seriously?

Excellent use of the oft-neglected word, tarnation. It's making a come back.

As for this boneheaded move by GM, is it any wonder why they struggle? When the big whigs who are supposed to be the smartest guys in the room send out ridiculously pointless memos like this, not to mention their use of the nauseatingly cliche' corporate America term "moving forward"...

And to think, I was diggin' on their re-imagined Chevy Camaro. I can't see driving a Chevrolet Camaro. It's got no ring to it!

Seriously. It's not like people are calling all cars "Chevys", or that the restaurant chain has diluted the brand. Try telling Dodge and Plymouth fanatics not to refer to their rides as "Mopar" cars.

Chevrolet is going to get more mileage out of this drummed-up debate than you'll likely get out of one of their cars before the first service issue springs up. And that has been their real brand-identity issue for a long, long, long time.
