Dropping your DVX on a Hardfloor :-(

Hey,

while I was setting up my dvx with the glidecam - I left it for a bit & like an idiot - it fell SLAM! on my Gloss Hardwood Floor ! :(
Hearing the clunk on the wood - still sends shivers down my spine - damn >:(

So - I guess - I turned it on & it seems ok - but I tend to treat this baby with the upmost care up untill now - so any advice what to look for or is it a case of " it works or it doesn't work " ?
It fell on the lcd side SLAM!! on the floor & scared the hell out of me :-[

Anybody done this - whats the drill for checking her over ?

cheers :)

I'd just do some recording tests, make sure all the guts are working properly.
If she still looks purty, y'ain't likely got a problem

Oooh, that raises the hair on my back.

If you have focus charts it might be a good idea to check the camera with those. Look for distortions, alignment, focus problems.

I thought someone mentioned a self-test the camera has built into it.

The focus chart is a good idea as well. Also shoot some zoomed in shots on solid colors, make sure the CCDs are all functioning. Also, try tapping the lens hood, see if you get any interlacing lines, that'll be another hint to the CCDs being off.

I had a close experience . . . found the camera to have lived through it ok . . . it is a solid piece of equipment but I did check out all the focus tests as the movement of glass was my main worry. I am sorry for the bad buzz but I hope all is ok. :-[

Re: Dropping your DVX on a Hardfloor :-(

Man, yesterday when I switched my camera,I got the worst scare of my life. As soon as I switched the camera, it went all black. I tried to press every single button as I didn't know why it was black. The menu was displaying, the f-stops were changing and so the focus.
I was like: what the hell is wrong with this camera? It is still new. Don't tell me it is f***ed up already?
Then I found out that my ND filter was on. I was inside my house, with low light. No wonder.

Has anyone ever forgotten to remove the ND filter and found everything in complete darkness?

Thank God!!!!

All the best

Fidel.

Yeah, I had this happen too. After checking everything I could think of - including the ND - I decided to try again with the lens cap OFF!  Duh!!

So it seems ok so far - I can focus ok but while testing around the house - I have some brushed steel looking handles on my wardrobe & they seem to be a little blocky just like the effect in this pic http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Clips;action=display;num=1098370804;start=
When I zoom in a little its ok but at wide angle they look exactly like the pic on the above link with the " red " problem.
I don't remember noticing it before but - it could be that Im more analytical since the drop ???
It seems to be happening on shiny silver surfaces that attract the sunlight at wide angle shots - Im hoping this is normal :-/
I'll try & post some grabs later but if you understand what Im taliking about - put me out of misery & tell me you have the same thing :)

A LITTLE awkward maybe, and I find it hard to get to controls, but I feel safer now ;)

You could put a tarp over that and it would be a DIY rain cover. :D
