Dropping frames

I'm pulling footage from a personal DVD into FCP, however, it keeps dropping frames there by deleting the upload. This footage is 2 hours long. Help!
 
Oh yeah, I'm saving to an external hard drive, Western Digital, connected via fire wire. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you transfer the footage from the dvd on to your external hard drive in a capture scratch? From what you said, you're pulling footage from a dvd and saving to a external hard drive. If thats the case, you're definitely going to drop frames.
 
it pulled it footage from the dvd for 1 hour and 50 minutes before it dropped a frame. that's where the frustration set in. thanks for the advice i really appreciate it.

and you are correct, capturing it to a scratch disc/external drive.
