Hi all,

I just installed Vegas on my PC. When I try to capture
video I get dropped frames. I pretty positive I don't have
enough memory (384). I am just curious to know what else can cause dropped frames.

Thanks,

Phil

Re: Dropped Frames.

If you are getting them right at the beginning of capture this is what I do to avoid them....I rewind the tape to the very beginning...hit play and as soon as it starts to play hit pause...let it get good and paused then hit the capture button. I've found that often when I just hit capture from a dead stand still I will drop the first frames...as many as about 45. Other than that possible heads need cleaning or possibly a defective tape? I am no guru so I hope someone else helps you too.

Thanks, for the suggestion. I'll try that. Is anybody running with lees than 500 memory?

Re: Dropped Frames.

I tested video capturing in Vegas on laptop Pentium 3 700Mhz with 256 Mbt RAM, no frames drop. PCMCI Firewire generic card. Windowx XP OS. HD 20Gbt 5200 RPM.

In your situation is not memory problem.
Check for any additional applications you runing at same time. Try to close all of them, just run that nesesary. Some of them can be runing in background mode. Press <ctr>+<shift>+<esc> same time, it will open task manager, click on tab "preformance" see what is you CPU load and memory usage. "Processess" tab will show you what running in background. If no programs running but your CPU utilisation is high, you may have virus.
Next, other possible bottle neck is your hard drive, or destanation drive. If you capturing on exturnal USB drive you will have big drop in preformance. Also if you capture on primary HD be sure you don't have slower device on same IDE channel, that will bring all preformance down.

It is about thousnd possibilites, please provide with more information on your system, settings, hardware, to help you with problem.

Re: Dropped Frames.

Defrag your HD, better yet use a separate HD for capture. If you can't get a 2nd HD then next best thing is to partition your HD and use a dedicated partition for a capture disk.
