Dropped Frames During Capture.

I've gotten this before, but not half as much as I'm getting it now... It's showing up ALL the time during capture

"detecting dropped frames during recent capture attempt"

What can I do to fix this?

Try a faster hard disk.

An internal ATA or SATA drive is faster than an external firewire drive.
Capture to the internal, then move it to your external for editing.

Also, drives are faster when they're not full. Try using a drive that's
at least 20% empty.

Hope this helps,

I just got a webietech external drive. It's got about 700 gigs free but it's external. My mac is a first gen g5 2ghz so until I can get a new one, I guess I will have to deal with the dropped frames for now. Thanks!

What is the difference between an ATA and SATA drive?

You never mentioned what format you were capturing... nor if your webietech a USB drive or FW?

So try the internal drive on your G5. It's probably an ATA.
That just might take care of your dropped frames.

Newer machines have SATA, which is much faster.

You shouldn't have any trouble caputring DV via firewire onto a FW drive. You might want to check how the drive was formatted. A lot of drives out of the box are formatted Windows FAT32, which will mount on a mac, but performance is degraded. Format HFS+. Also, don't capture from a firewire device to a drive on the same bus by daisy chaining, always use a separate port, or even better, a whole other card.
