DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

Was watching "What Not to Wear" last night (shut up), their big $50,000 special, and what did I see but THREE (3) dropout frames all within a few seconds.

And it wasn't like a little dropout square in the corner, either. These were 9-10 squares in random spots all over the screen.

I've *never* seen anything like that on television before.

That's nothing new! I see drop outs, tape malfunctions, etc. From time to time you might catch a boom inthe shot. I'm not supprised at all. I use to work for NBC and they phuck up all the time and hope no one really cares or catch it.

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

you guys underestimate yourselves. Those pros are just like you and I. we know what's up whats in or out.
don't you guys think by now you are a pro? you just might not be working professionally.

:P

David's trying to distract us from noticing he was watching "What Not to Wear" (shudder), by saying there were dropouts...clever fella....

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

Seriously . . . she's hot; Theresa Strasser is hot; Tava Smiley is hot; Constance Ramos is hot; Paige Davis is hot; many of the designers are hot . . . there are reasons to watch these shows when the Intended wants to watch them . . .

BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT, DAMMIT! THERE WERE DROPOUTS! :o

It's okay, you don't have to be embaressed that it's your favorite show, we accept you for who you are.

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

Well, maybe I dress a little better than you guys because of it . . . :P

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

Never saw the show, but I worked with a guy who was on it. He got a free designer leather jacket. What can I say - he became instant celebrity. Even people on the Metro would stop him and say 'hey, I saw you on TV!'. Makes you wonder how real celebrities must feel...

Dropouts - I am happy to say that while I was downloading almost fifteen yours of footage into my computer, I only had a single frame dropped. Of course, it doesn't say anything about other types of dropout (i'll see when I watch it all during editing), but it says something about the amazing quality of DVX.

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

I had the occasion to be a field producer for Robert Verdi, who's the host on "Surprise By Design" and E!'s "The Fashion Police".  We were shooting an episode of "The Fashion Police" and, let me tell you, that guy was POPULAR.  There must have been literally a hundred people who came up and asked for pictures with him (and he was very friendly and accomodated them all).  I was amazed at how many people stopped and pointed and recognized him.

So these design/dressing shows are extraordinarily popular... David, no need to feel ashamed, apparently there are millions of mall shoppers out there who share your secret obsession...

I was actually withholding that my girlfriend is a designer and in fact worked with "Surprise By Design" when they set up shop here in Charlotte. (She also designed the building which housed their operation for their stay.)  So, these shows are on quite a bit within our household.  So there, guys!  :P  ::)

And yes, Robert is extremely popular . . . and he manages to be EVERYWHERE. I got tired of seeing the guy, actually . . .

Well, I am not a fashion buff, but it sounds more appealing (and interesting) than Fear Factor!

Re: DROPOUTS . . . even the pros have 'em.

When I was working at Discovery, we had a threshhold of dropouts before a show was rejected. Single line analogue dropouts were permitted up to...I believe 10 within a minute. Five line dropouts were permitted up to 5-10 per 5 minutes. Ten line dropouts about 5 per episode and any dropout over 20 lines was automatic failure.

And yes, we were required to count the lines.

Digital dropouts were automatically rejected, but once the dubs are made of the masters, anything can happen between there and broadcast.
