Drop Frames on Batch Capture

Does anyone know what causes drop frames on some clips during a batch capture? I batch captured a group of 5-6 clips at a time and at some point in the process I would get a ERROR message on the screen. When I clicked Show Details it would say such and such clip drop frames. Now what I did to get around this was cued my deck up to the timecode I needed and just clicked CAPTURE NOW and it worked fine. So why is Batch Capture dropping frames?

Your system is having a hard tiem keeping up to speed with capturing.
Do you have plent of disk space on your capture drive and system drive?
Are these 2 different drives? (ideal)
Is the capture drive a firewire drive? (slower)
Do you have enough memory?
Do you have other applications running or anything in the background?

I have FCP on my system drive. The additional internal drive is used for the capture and auto save vaults and stuff. I also have a external firewire drive that I only used to store my finished projects. I have a gig and a half of memory with plans to upgrade to even more. No other applications are running at the time and nothing is in the background!

Sounds like you're doing everything right.
If this is with advanced pulldown removal? Try with it off to see if that makes a difference. (Use tool -> remove to remove it after capture)
If you have a problem wiht batch capture you can re-select the logged and do a re-capture. Try that instead of capture now to do pickups and see if that's any different.
Any chance of dirty head on your deck/camera?

For this particular project, I didnt shoot in 24P it was all 60i. I have everything set up correctly. Now the project is a wedding. I noticed something that was kind of strange but might make sense. When the bride was walking down the aisle, folks were taking pictures with their flashes going off. Everytime I did a batch capture it wouldn't capture that clip BUT when I did a CAPTURE NOW it took it with no problem! It may have just been a fluke type thing but I thought that was odd. So could something like a flash from a camera cause drop frames?

DVX100, are you sure it's not timecode issues or a problem with the digitizing deck? Have you batch captured other tapes with the same config and had them work?

PS, anyone know how to defrag a mac external drive?

Sometimes a antivirus program throws it off. So if you have one try turning it off when capturing footage. Its happen to me.
