Drobo Pro for HDV 1080i/ and 720p?

Hello, I wanted to set up a NAS for two computers, one a PC running Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and the other a MAC running Final Cut Pro 6.

I would eventually like to add a third system, most likely another Mac.

All these systems would be editing in HDV format and I would like all the systems to access the project files from one centralized location and possibly via ethernet (aka ISCI protocol).

Now my question is, would the DroboPro be able to handle this workload?

And if not, what alternative solutions are there for such an upgradeable NAS storage at a relatively similar price? (I am looking at the 2 TB package for $1699 US)

Thanks for any quick responses.

I think everything depends on how familiar you are in the IT world....I myself would setup a central server via gigabit ethernet with a RAID 10 or RAID 5.

If you setup a server instead of a dedicated device you can save a few dollars overall.

Of course if you just want a solution that works and has tech support, go for an all in one...but look for reviews of the product, specifically ones that deal with the support team.

I am not very familiar with this type of networking.

All I want is a centralized area for storage of media, access of media and backup and fast enough to work with HDV.

I'm looking at some Iomega and Buffalo NAS solutions as well. Are these good for editing HDV over ethernet?

I have a drobo and it works great for storage and backup. If you want to use it for editing directly to the drives via ethernet it would be possible. As long as your drives are at least 7500 rpm and you would have to use the firewire connection. Ethernet won't be fast enough for data transfer and editing.
