Drive speed requirements for DVCPro 100?

Anyone know what type/size/throughput hard drive(array?) that is required to work with up to DVCPro100 on the FCP timeline without a hitch? I want enough storage for a feature length documentary plus a little extra. Will I need scsi or fiber in order to work with DVCPro 100 or 50 on the timeline? Did I mention I am on a budget? I need to afford the HVX and other tools. So many questions...so little time!

BTW I have a 2.5 dual G5 w/ 2.5 gb ram and the Nvidia Ultra 6800 DDL.

For size, figure on a gigabyte per minute. So it depends on how much storage you want to have on line. A 300gb drive gives you five hours of storage.

For speed, you don't need a RAID, most desktop drives can easily handle the 12.5 megabyte-per-second data rate of DVCPRO-HD.

For processor -- well, I don't know. But FCP's been working with DVCPRO-HD since version 4.5, so hopefully someone can answer.

i've tried to get a solid answer on this one too. i think getting a laptop with an external harddrive will be cheaper than a p2 setup, but what rpm should the laptop harddrive be to be fast enough to capture dvcproHD? anyone wanna shed light on hdrack requirements? =]

HD Rack hasn't even been announced as a product yet, so it's way too early to go asking about requirements. Serious Magic has said that they're actively talking with Panasonic about making it a reality, but it isn't yet an officially-announced product.

With that said, the data rate of DVCPRO-HD is 100 megabits, or 12.5 megabytes, per second. So a hard disk that has a minimum sustained speed above that level, say 15 megabytes per second, should work.
