Dreams...

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
So I had a dream, and I've had the same dream before.

It's about a girl who enters a room, and there's a star on a bunch of items in the room (a teddy bear was one I could remember)

On the star, had a number.

The girls picks a start and puts it on her mouth.

Then all of a sudden she wonders why she is there, and she wants to go.

Then a man comes in and says "It's to late"

And whatever number she put on her mouth, that's how she dies.

So if the star/number was on a saw, she'd get sawed to death. If it was on the teddy bear, I guess the bear would eat her? I don't know...

Any idea on how I can turn this into a 6 minute short?

Is it to much like Saw? She doesn't know here she is...

This seems like a good idea. It has potential.

I can't think of anything you could do with it besides making a surreal/abstract piece with the elements you have so far. If you haven't already seen any David Lynch films, this would give you an idea of what I am picturing in my head after reading your description of your dream.

If you want to turn this concept into a more traditional narrative, then I would ask:

Why is this girl in the room?

Why does this man sit there and say "it is too late"? Does he kill her? Does he have any affiliation with the cause of the girl's death? If he does, what is his motive?

What is the girl's motive? It seems she is there against her will. Maybe she is in some strange realm or state of mind that she must escape from?

Usually asking questions like these helps me in starting to create the threads of a story.

Also, think of a specific genre that you would like to work in. This story could be a creepy mystery, or a straight horror film. Maybe it is a dark fantasy, or a suspense piece. It could also be an abstract film, or possibly science fiction. Maybe the theme of the film could deal with dreams. Ever seen The Cell? I bet this type of imagery could also work in a music video.

What I like to do when I get an idea that is vague or abstract, is to just let it percolate in my mind for a while. Sometimes it is hard to do when I am exited about a new idea. If you have any other ideas that are more fully formed plot wise, then I would suggest that you continue to work on those while being open to any new insights that might arise for this new dream idea.

Also, are you planning on shooting this yourself as a short or developing it into a feature screenplay? Budgetary limitations can also help you determine the boundaries of your concept.

I don't think your idea sounds very like Saw.
