When I was around 6 or 7 years old, my best friend rented a movie called 'Rad' and we watched it half a dozen times in a row. It was full blown 80s BMX brilliance, living up to its name in spades. We thought it was the coolest thing on the planet.
The story was about Cru Jones, a small town kid with a big dream: to be a pro BMX racer. A huge BMX competition came to his home town, and against all odds, Cru won 'Helltrack', got the big celebrity endorsement deal, and even got the girl (Lori Louglin).
15 years after seeing that movie for the first time, I remember it fondly and reflect on how it positively influenced my adolescence. In high school I started a biking club and got to be on set for a Trek commercial, which first got me into filmmaking.
Now, I'm doing EPK for a feature that has Bill Allen (star of Rad, THE CRU JONES) as a supporting character. I get to meet this legend, interview him, hang out and have lunch, heck I'm even gonna ask him if he wants to go BMXing some time. This is truly a subplot of my life coming full circle, and it feels amazing. Just felt like sharing
