drawing / illustration cinematography, how was this shot and what was the rig used?

i guess my question pertains more to the rig that was used. it moves fluidly though vertical and horizontal space, but i wouldn't imagine it to be a crane or jib.

some sort of slider that can move through vertical space? is it just a wheeled tripod + cranking up and down on the neck? it seems to be shot upright, on a whiteboard.

what do you guys think?

Although I do agree that it was done in AE, I think it was shot live as someone drew on a white board then animated in AE.

Looks likes just camera on sticks following the guys hand as he draws on a white board IMO.

Could be. Looked like the hand was composited in to me (and the drawings are a little too perfect), but watching it again, maybe it's live footage. But the camera movements are definitely AE.

Its shot live but captured through onLocation to take advantage of user defined timelapse settings which can be changed on the fly from no timelapse to extreme times and then brought into AE. People have been doing this since before Adobe bought out Serious Magic and onLocation was still called dvRack.

Company I work for hires a guy to do that sort of drawing for an event we put on. The guy can draw really fast and really well on the fly.

Hmm, seems like just editing it in post after shooting the entire thing would be easier. But, I'm not familiar with Serious Magic or onLocation so perhaps not.

shot live how?

its stable, and moves through both horizontal and vertical space.

i dont think its after effects. there are moments when you can see the artist's body. im pretty sure its done practically.

is it just pan / tilt, following the hand, and zooming in? the angle never seems canted to me, but that *could* be all it is...

OR... maybe its just time lapse DSLR, at high res, taking actual stills at like 10+ mp, not video, and then digitally zooming / cropping in AE. its curious that the youtube vid doesn't go to HD... maybe they lost resolution with all the digital zooming. i dunno, i'm just not sold.

edit: now i think its just panning and tilting. ramped accordingly in AE.
