Dracast 300w Fresnel on Sale

Hello Listers,

The LED market is just so weird right now. For those that were interested in the somewhat disappointing release of the COB300 due to design and fan noise, check out this special on a 300w Dracast Bi-color fresnel for a grand. Best thing I've seen for the money yet. I have some smaller Dracast products, and when purchased on special, they have been a good value, but again, don't blink cuz the market is pretty wiggly. I would bet that we haven't seen the bottom on Chinese LEDs just yet. Dracasts aren't up to Arri quality IMHO, but they are probably some of the better Chinese lights out there and the company does answer their phone in my experience.

I just ordered up one of these and I'll report back when it shows.

Wow, tons of huge deals on all of their stuff on bhphotovideo right now.

Brought the silkray 400. It's fantastic for what I paid. Honestly, haven't heard much about this company, but the products seem really good for the price? Is there a catch I'm missing?

Compare to what Aputure lists for the LS C300d (without the fresnel attachment):
With Reflector
4461 fc /48,000 lux @ 1.6' (0.5m)
1022 fc / 11,000 lux @ 3.28' (1.0m)
260 fc / 2800 lux @ 6.56' (2.0m)
Flood
8132 fc /87,500 lux @ 1.6' (0.5 m)
2454 fc / 26,400 lux @ 3.28' (1.0 m)
651 fc / 7000 lux @ 6.56' (2.0 m)
Spot
13,197 fc /142,000 lux @ 1.6' (0.5 m)
3717 fc / 40,000 lux @ 3.28' (1.0 m)
976 fc / 10,500 lux @ 6.56' (2.0 m)

Weight: 21.6 lb / 9.8 kg

oof!

I looked at the weight factors myself. The Aputure head is pretty light but when added to the weight of control box, it isn't too much different. The Aputure shipping weight is about 21lbs. So subtract the weight of the packaging from that. No doubt the Dracast is a large and somewhat heavy head. But it is also a form factor issue; would you rather have everything in one box, or split into two.

Too bad the specs aren't directly comparable. Aputure quoted without lens and the readings for spot and flood don't give any angles. The distances are enough different to be a factor as well. Think inverse square laws; though this could be calculated mathematically given what's there.

I'd be interested if anyone has a better take on this comparing the two.

In the end, I was more concerned about noise and prefer the more traditional fresnel form factor. They are both going to be reasonably bright and of course the Dracast is adjustable spectrum. I'll find out in a week or so if I like it.
